Q: How do I know if I need a new roof?
The following signs may indicate that it is time to replace your roof:
- Missing, cracked, curled shingles
- Decaying shingles, siding, overhangs
- Leaking into attics
- Staining on ceilings or walls
Q: How much does a new roof cost?
Costs are based on several factors. And, while the type of roof you’re looking at and the materials are important, there’s too much to consider to get an accurate estimate online. JC Roofing offers comprehensive assessments. We’ll come out to your home, listen to your needs, explain what options are available and provide you with an accurate quote.
Q: How long will it take to replace my roof?
Replacement time depends on the roof’s size, materials, if sheathing needs to be replaced/installed, how steep the roof is, etc. On average, a replacement can be completed in 2 to 4 days. We make every effort to complete the job in the least amount of time possible while ensuring the integrity of our work. During the replacement process, JC Roofing will protect the areas around your home from damage due to falling debris.
Q: Should I have my roof inspected and if so, how often?
Regardless of your roof’s material, it should be inspected annually. The Reno/Tahoe area has 4 distinct seasons. During those seasons, your roof is going to expand and contract. If not caught early enough, that wear and tear can become quite costly to fix. We offer comprehensive roof inspections. We’ll inform you about your roof’s current state and explain any issues that require immediate attention.
Q: What if I have a concrete tile roof?
Concrete tile roofs are great. They’re a two part system including an underlayment and the tile. However, many tile roofs were installed to minimum specifications and building codes. And, because of this, the underlayment may not last as long as the roof tiles. Like every roof, they require routine inspection and maintenance. Have JC Roofing provide a comprehensive inspection of the entire system.
Q: How often should I have my gutters cleaned?
Your gutters should be cleaned twice a year, once after the leaves have fallen, and again in the spring. By having JC Roofing come and clean your gutters, we can view your roof at the same time and inform you if it’ll need any type of service.
Q: What are ice dams?
Ice dams form along eave lines. As the snow melts on the roof, water travels down toward the eaves. Since the overhang areas are colder than the rest of the roof, freezing temperatures cause water to freeze and form ice. This ice can work its way up the roof, which can allow water to get through the roofing system and leak into the home. JC Roofing has a variety of solutions to prevent ice dams including heat tapes and attic insulation/ventilation.
Q: How important is attic ventilation?
This is key to ensuring a lasting roof system. Structures that are not properly ventilated can have issues with sheathing, and truss dry-rot, condensation build-up and an overall shortened service life. We can determine if your attic ventilation meets the current code requirements.
Q: How do I know if my attic is properly insulated?
The Department of Energy insulation’s recommendations are updated quite often. While these recommendations change depending on where you live, it has been determined that many homes are under-insulated in their attic space. This leads to higher energy costs for the homeowner. By increasing your attic’s insulation, you can save money on your heating and cooling bills. JC Roofing prefers to install blown-in insulation. The benefit to blown-in insulation over other types is that it can be installed over most existing insulation systems. Call JC Roofing today for an inspection of your attic to determine if your home is properly insulated.
